An opportunity has arisen for an Asset Engineering. You will be responsible for providing an engineering centre of excellence which enables the wider business to efficiently and effectively deliver strategic and commercial asset management outcomes.

The role will lead the development of key network asset related policies, procedures and standards, develop network asset specifications and provide expert input into network asset maintenance, renewal planning and programs of work.

The role is a pivotal role in Essential Energy’s asset management division directly influencing all aspects of whole of life asset management.

Experience and Skills Required for the role: 

  • Professional Electrical Engineer with demonstrated experience enabling the delivery of strategic and commercial asset management outcomes
  • Specialised senior asset engineering leader with demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in the electricity distribution industry
  • Strong senior leadership experience with demonstrated experience in change management and effective leadership of engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience in network asset engineering, standards development, specification development and operational asset maintenance and inspection programs
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving and developing asset management plans in a regulated industry balancing costs and performance outcomes whilst meeting regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Strong understanding of commercial considerations and risk management principles including consequence, likelihood and residual risk.
  • Excellent knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements eg WHS, IPART, AER, Electricity Act, etc
  • Working knowledge of asset management practices and standards including ISO 55001. 


  • Demonstrated asset management and engineering expertise and knowledge including, asset needs analysis, options development and program development to manage best practice end to end asset management
  • Strong asset knowledge and expertise in terms of technical principles, asset parameters, performance expectations, technical compliance and diagnostic analysis
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business imperatives and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare Executive and Board documentation, reports, briefings, investment cases and socialise recommendations for business implementation
  • Professional interpersonal and influencing skills with a proven ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders to build collaborative working relationships across all levels of the business, both internally and externally
  • Ability to accept responsibilities and accountabilities and be focused on delivering outcomes to meet the wider team objectives 

Qualifications Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant discipline or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications.
